Magnet Application: to enroll your student in the Gifted STEAM Magnet program at Hale, you need to submit a magnet application (even if Hale is your resident school). On-time application window is Oct 1st - Nov 12th , 2021. Apply online on LAUSD e-Choices website.Do not submit a new application, if your child is currently enrolled at Hale's STEAM magnet program and wishes to continue at Hale next year.
Gifted Verification Process: All students not previously identified gifted must be verified. A verification of eligibility form is NOT required for Gifted Magnet/SAS applicants currently enrolled in a Los Angeles Unified school, including online instruction with City of Angels. Upon receipt of the application, the District will automatically review eligibility through a District verification process in January 2022.) If enrolled in a non-district school (private, independent charter), confirm that the school of attendance has submitted the Verification of Eligibility form on or before the November 12, 2021 deadline (email or postmarked). If applying to a Gifted Magnet or Schools for Advanced Studies (SAS) and homeschooled (without a verifying organization) or not enrolled in school, contact GATE@lausd.net on or before the November 12, 2021 deadline to initiate the verification process. Selection Process: The on-time student selection process for magnet programs is based on the Magnet Priority Point System and the Court-Ordered reduction of the Harms of Racial Isolation. Once the application is submitted, the information is verified by the District’s Information Technology Division (ITD) and students are assigned points based on 5 criteria. The sum of these points is utilized in the fair and computerized selection process. Transportation: District-paid transportation MAY be provided for SECONDARY (6-12) applicants if they reside outside a five-mile radius of the magnet program. BEFORE MAKING YOUR SELECTION, contact the school or Transportation Services to determine if the magnet program offers transportation and if the closest pick-up/drop-off point is a reasonable distance from your home.
